Is there any way to entice chickens to sett.?

I have 13 hens and a rooster and would like to raise new stock.None of my hens have become broody this summer.Is there any way to entice hens to start setting?

Years ago we would put artificial eggs under the hen-- for some reason it worked.

Could be you have the wrong breed of chickens. Not all breeds are "setters". I have both types and so the broody hens set the eggs for the others. Strange, isn't it?
