The student is in junior primary and I am a teacher trying to answer an inquiring mind - web searches don't help as the question is too broad. Thanks for your input. Cheers

None of the American cities, since American tend to live in the suburbs. Also NYC has so many buildings because it is a small island.

I would go with Tokyo, Mexico City or Sao Paulo

Many cities around the world would have dense population,so it all depends on what criteria to use to determine which city has the most buildings and houses. Some large Asian cities like Manila, Bombay and Sao Paulo in Latin America have shanty towns with millions in population living in makeshift shelters, with no basic sanitation.

If your criteria is the size/square footage of buildings and/or ratio to the population that would be another story.
