Considering that psychological studies have proven the overall happiness of a homeless person is about equal to that of a middle or upper class America, would you still feel the same way?

partly true... cos i believe its all one's mental perception.. if u believe u r happy u will be happy, n if u want to believe u r sad u will be sad... one can find happiness in small li'l things too n sometimes even the greatest of events cannot stir up anythin in u... so its all about how u think.. sometimes people tend to believe they are miserable as it tends to drag ppl's attention.. i intend no offence to those who are actually sad for some reasons.. but to those who are living in a rut jus cos of stupid reasons, believe me think positive and u'll be happy.. n then majority shall be happy..

I think most people feel miserable. The media have us all wanting more and more but we live our lives with less and less. Less time, less money, less friends, less of everything.
People have less time to enjoy life, family and friends. Most are stressed out with a lot of things.
The more we fight for things, the harder life seems to be for us. There's just too little resources in the growing number of people on earth.

Every single thing added in the material world is another thing missing in our lives.

So happy people generally are contented people.
But many people are not contented contributing to the increasing number of miserable population.

Most are miserable.

Its common human trait. We worry of oil prices, depleting resources, money, health and so on.

But we seldom realize that most of our happiness is realized in retrospect.

For example, when you were a schoolkid, you worried about homework, exams and tyrant teachers. But after you grow up, you think those were the happiest moments of your life .... carefree, jovial, friends everywhere .... bla bla

Being happy is a menatal state and being miserable is a physical-physiological condition. One may be miserable and yet be happy.

I believe happy because it makes them feel better about themselves. True happiness is hard to find most people pretend to be happy and do anything to get rid of sorrow even hide it.

Unhappy...People who live in poverty far out-number those who don't. At least 10,000 children a day in the world die from starvation and other related causes. Sorry...Most Americans don't have a clue...
