being from kansas and all - morning sun and afternoon shade will be just fine. so don't forget to water late in the afternoon or evening to help them grow good luck
i am in oregon now and have all the stuff growing here and am with abundance of all kinds of veggies and fruits and even sunflowers.

If you eat it--No
if you mash it up and use it on your hair--No
lettuce is key in vitamins but over consumption of it will not stunt nor excellerate hair growth
