He discovered a background radiation in all directions coming from space and that the radation was shifted toward the red end of the spectrum which meant the universe was expanding which lent credibility to work done by other scients like Hawking who developed the Big Bang theory.

The telescope is named in honor of Edwin Hubble.

He discovered that all stars are moving away from each other in the universe, in otherwords reshifting and the further the stars are away from us the greater the redshift and he came up with the math to prove it and is called the Hubble constant.
