I bought some votive candles at a dollar store, and discovered the wax paper that the wick is attached to floated all the way up to the top of the candle. It was bizarre.
I also bought some cheese sauce, that was called nacho sauce. It was absolutely nasty. I mixed it with my dog's food, and gave it to them. They loved it!
I bought two clear glass candle holders, both of which have visable bubbles in the glass.
I bought some name brand peanut butter cookie mix, that was really not good at all.
But all in all, the number of things that I have bought at the dollar store, that I have been satisfied with, well outweigh the number of things I have been dis-satisfied with. The one I shop at also sells brand name stuff, so I can get a box of Friskies cat food, a pack of Energiser batteries, a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, two American Greetings cards, a bag of Butterfinger candy, a L'Oreal nail polish, a bag of Lays chips, a can of Wizard Air Freshener, a bar of Dove soap, and a six pack of Shasta Cola, for ten bucks. It's worth the occasional dollar that's thrown away on junk.

Yes, and that is why I am very picky about what to buy and what not to buy from the dollar store. At least 95% of what you get from the dollar store is your stereotypical, cheap, faulty, Made-in-China junk that never lasts over a day (two if you're lucky). The saying "you get what you pay for" applies very well. Some things I will NEVER buy from the dollar store include electronics (the Number One Dollar Tree no-no), batteries (Super Heavy Duty, my tail), that fake cheese they sell, crayons (can you say pure wax?) candles, and most toys. However, I do buy things like the few name-brand products they carry, party supplies, note cards, and paper.

I think the reason people go to the dollar stores is not to buy good products. Most things in the dollar store are trinkits that people buy on impulse. If you needed candles for disaster preparedness, you would not buy them at the dollar store. People feed their hunger to spend by shopping at the dollar stores. Cleaning supplies and toiletries are less expensive at other stores.
I like shopping, and when I go to the dollar store instead of Saks, I wind up feeling the same. I don't need trinkets OR clothes, so my hunger is fed. Good luck !

A friend of my ex's worked there and gave us these candles and I lit one and it burned for a little bit then I saw sparks and it started this fire that was spreading on the top of the candle.
The things that I like to get there though are coloring books and crayons or just some childrens books.

You have to be careful. Most of the stuff has been rejected by other stores for a good reason. Some of it could even be dangerous. I bought some batteries that didn't work.

Well, there is the expression "you get what you pay for." I have bought loads of garbage from dollar stores :) Especially hair clips that completely ate my hair.
