Actually contrary to what everybody said before, that's not that good. Of course, it depends on your grade and level of dedication to the sport, but high schoolers should get 4:20s or 4:30s, around that. We have an amazing sophomore runner who got 4:20:30 in the mile this year. Considering high schoolers are just one step before collegic level (and competition level) runners who get around 4 minutes, a high schooler who is aiming for state and national levels really should be getting much faster times. Keep it up though!

Yes and no. I ran a 4:58 in 7th grade, and that was good. If you want to compete run up and down steep hills 3 times a week. You need to run under 4:30 by junior and 4:15 and below to go to college.
