I go this clinic and there are about 3 ob/gyn...every time I go its not the same as the previous appt. My question is.....when Im in labor....are they going to call one of them or just any random doctor? By the way, the clinic is an extension of the hospital...I know it may sound kind of silly but I've always forgotten to ask...Any experinces?

Uh, maybe you might want to ask.

They probably have a rotation of who is "on duty" at any given time. It's good that you see each of them, so you have some relationship. Feel free to ask them questions about how they arrange hospital coverage, just so you will know what to expect. If there is a possibility that a doctor other than the ones you have met in the clinic will be called in for the delivery, you need to know this as well. When you deliver the baby, there will actually be a lot of people around, including the doctor, labor and delivery nurses, and also pediatric staff who will check out the baby as soon as it's born. Try to tour the hospital facilities so you will know what these are like ahead of time.

Pre nup is always a good thing, you can outline what you get in the case of a divorce. Also know that most marriages to doctors end up in divorce, same with soldiers and police officers. These are a different breed of person and their jobs are their way of life. Get into some hobbies, join a gym, volunteer at the hospital where he works so you can at least grab coffee together. Be supportive and what ever you do don't turn into a nag or doubt the state of your marriage, when you start doing that then your marriage is as good as over. Stay open to communication and make sure that his time off work is relaxing and laid back especially during residency, he isn't going to want to go running all over hell and back when he gets very little time off. This point in his career will make or break your marriage so you better decide you're in it for the long haul. Not being rude but being realistic and giving you some honest advice.

If you are going to an OB/GYN group then they should rotate doctors based on who's there at the time of you appointment. If you usually see the same one then maybe it's because they are usually in the office while the others are in the hospital???? Not sure about where you go, but that's how mine work. So when I go into labor it could be any one of them from the group on call who delivers my baby.

Who ever is ON CALL when you go into deliver is who you get.

Could be your regular OB/GYN could be one of the partners.

AND/OR it could be someone else entirely.

All depends on how many babies are being born at the same time and how fast/slow you progress.

Ask next appointment on what will happen when you go to the hospital to deliver. That way you will have some knowledge BEFORE you go in.

You will probably get the one that is on call. They give you a number that is a general number to a pager or general office than the doctor with the pager calls or the office contacts the doctor for you.

I had a home birth because this set up was the only available doctors in my area. I didn't want to expose myself to just anybody.

I would recommend a home birth to anyone on earth. It was actually relaxing.

Good Luck

Check with your clinic's protocol, but my personal experience is that it is whoever is 'on call'. They basicly have a schedule and depending on when you go into labor depends on who delivers you.

at my ob/gyn i have to see everyone atleast once, dr and midwives and then i can choose either one. then of those it just depends who is available when i go into labor. so probably whichever dr. is available will deliver your baby unless you request one of them to be there.
