I had asked a question earlier about a possible scammer emailing me and I said I never knew this person. Someones reply was that its impossible for anyone to email me or have my email address that I didn't know. Are they correct? If not, how does someone get my email address without me giving it to them?

Yes, it is possible for others to get your e-mail address without you giving it to them. You may have filled out a survey that gave your e-mail address to third parties and such. Also, on www.tagged.com, I've noticed that if you message someone...and they reply...you can get their e-mail address and vice versa. So, yes...others can get your e-mail address even without you giving it to them.

if you have a yahoo address, maybe they go through profiles.yahoo.com and take random profiles and try to add "@yahoo.com" at the end and see if the email goes through... that's been my explanation to myself for the last couple of months because i also get some spam/scam email [pretending to be paypal and ebay asking for my password, even though i use a different email address for those services!] on my "@sbcglobal.net" email...

no they are not correct. if you ever get an email that has been sent too more then one person, every ones email address shows up on it so people can get it that way.

They have may gotten it from a website you signed up to, or one of your friends that he/she know or may have hacked it. Many possibilities.
