No, it's called patriotism. We elect officials, it's fair that we evaluate the job they're doing.

no it is not , i believe the bill of rights gave us this right to question authority. Remember our so called leaders are elected to these positions, and some like Bush were not really elected by the citizens of this great nation. I think I heard somewhere he was handed the position of President by his brother Jeb, Governor of Florida. When someone gets a position of authority like he did, all at once it is unamerican to question the Government. But always remeber this is the good old USA not russia or Iraq, Iran, Africa and so on, and so on. So stand up for those rights and try and not let them slip away from us , because some of our rights have allready been lost under this administration.

Having joined the Military you are obligated to follow orders that are not illegal. I believe the war is illegal but if I were a soldier, you don't have the luxury. You are taught the chain of command and generally speaking no one on it can do any wrong. That is what many thought in Vietnam, though LBJ's Gulf of Ton kin Resolution which he used to insert combat troops to Vietnam was a lie!
When I was in the Army, and started by making $78.00 a month, I was about as Conservative as they come!! The blinders came off after Vietnam!

I don't think it is trashing your country to question the leaders. Really, how else will they be accountable for what they do? Blind loyalty is not a good thing- but having faith in your leader's ability is. We need to believe in our leaders, yet be able to question their decisions when the decisions do not feel right.

No, if I understand the question. I think it is our civic duty/responsibility to keep abreast of current events. I find listening to both liberal and conservative radio talk shows and watching C-Span a great way to obtain a bit of understanding as to what is going on in this country and the world. We should feel free to express our views pro or con. We should be loyal to our country at all costs, but not to one political party just because we are liberal or conservative. The office, not the office holder deserves respect. He is the President of the United States, regardless of what we do or don't think of George W. Bush.

No. You can be patriotic, and not agree with the decisions of your government. Being patriotic is standing behind your land and the country to choose to live in. If someone is bad mouthing your country you defend it with honor. Apparantly you have defended it with your life, but for people like me....who haven't you defend it with your heart and actions. I don't agree with the politics of this world, but that doesn't take away my love of being an American and how proud I am of our country and what it was founded on and the history..........the good and the bad you have to accept it all.....the good and the bad of the past and of the future.

NO, I do not think it is trashing your country to question what or who you are calling our leaders. I think, feel, and believe we need to ask more question and DEMAND accountability for ALL of their actions and or inaction's. OUR great nation is quickly becoming a dictatorship which is nothing short of communism. And WE the PEOPLE need to put a STOP to this.

ya know, ever since i read the book 1984 the government kind of creeps me out........way too many 'big brotherly' things go on these days
The way i see it is like this....
I pay a LOT of taxes....therefore our government officials are on MY payroll.....they are on YOUR payroll too....we have every right to question them if they don't have any problem taking our money & I have no doubt that more of them have more MATERIAL things than I do...so it is the money they earned from MY sweat paying for their crap. I have the RIGHT, and you do too, to question what they do. The USA was not built on blind obedience and we should NEVER let them take our freedom to ask questions away, no matter HOW uncool it is to do so.

Depends on what you mean by blind loyalty. I think being loyal makes your life easier . But i would never go against my personal code for the government. Do soldiers have to go against their code?

No, it is your responsibility as an American to question your leaders. One of the things that makes America great is the ability to ask questions and to speak our minds. Take advantage of all the freedoms that you can! We owe it to ourselves and our children to be aware and involved in what is happening in our country, and to make leaders and politicians accountable for their actions.
