Don't listen to these people. They're trying to talk you into wearing combat boots.
Lace up? Country Western? Shoot, that's so 20th Century.
For sportbike boots, think AlpineStar, or FirstGear. Of course, you shouldn't buy on-line. Try on boots at a bike store.
Features to look for are ankle support, waterproof materials, steel shank, steel tow, velcro closures, calf protection, and above all else, comfort.

I have a pair of Oxtar Sunray boots, and they're great. I ride an R6, and they work really well for me. The only thing is, from what I hear if you have larger calves they can be tight, but they're fine for most.
They zip up the side, and have a steel reinforced bottom. They're also waterproof, and the bottoms are made to resist oil and gas so they won't break down eventually like normal boots can.

My fiance and I ride Harley....I have a nice pair of Harley Davidson boots, but mostly remember they should be comfortable. I think a zipper is key, I prefer zipping my boots rather than lacing them.
Oh, and you won't want anything that can be melted by the exhaust!!

Go to your local Country Western Clothing store and look at Ariats. They lace up, have rubber soles, and offer great ankle support with a little more style than most other brands, and come in colors other than black.

I have a pair of combat boots I wear, and a pair of Doc Martins. I trade off on them, but they both give great ankle support, are non-slip, and hey, they look sexy!
