Yes you can die if the bleeding does not stop.

See article for reference to tongue pierce and continued bleeding.
Simple tongue cut stops easy but cutting your tongue with bigger blood vessel bleeding can kill you.

The tongue has several arteries, so yes, you can die. Not to mention cutting off your tongue is very painful. Don't do it!

I bit off part of my tongue one time when I was young. It sure did bleed a lot....I don't know about the whole thing though...

If it bleeds and continues to bleed you could die from loss of blood...but if it heals....you will most likely have a speech problem...

It depends how fast you can get medical attention. If you don't you could by getting an infection or maybe bleeding to death.
