I have noticed that in many mathematical questions, the answers winning by reader's vote, are wrong. I think in such cases the blind are being asked to lead the one-eyed.

Surely Yahoo can afford to employ a good mathematics teacher to chose the correct answers. Agree?

Yes. Many times it happens. And a maths teacher can also answer questions which have not been correctly answered.

I agree that many poor and/or incorrect answers are chosen...naturally I feel mine are the best in the ones I answer (relating to math).

Many people do tend to pick either the longest answer that is copied off of some website and had no real effort on the part of the answerer, which to me is annoying. Often times a more concise but better answer is over looked. I dont think that highering a teacher to choose answers would be the best solution. I do like having them put to a vote...but i find that poor answers are chosen there as well...I dont think there is an easy solution, but I agree with you.

I am a mathematician, and not officially
a teacher, but I love math and helping others
learn and enjoy mathematics.

Yes, some wrong answers are chosen.
Considering the nature of the YA forum,
this is to be expected. But in math,
ultimately the work must be done by you.

Never take ANYTHING merely on
someone else's authority.

I disagree!! sometimes the wrong answer is the best one.. it was funny... it made people think... it was totally obsurd but the person didn't realize it (so those who know math get a good chuckle out of it).. many reasons!!!

On one of my questions.. they didn't even answer the question.. who do I pick? I picked the one that after I read it.. I got inspired to search out the right answer in just one more spot!.. I got my answer ... the person answering did not give it to me.. but I gave them the 10 points because for me.. they DID have the BEST answer!

I believe you will find when it comes to a vote to answer a question then all is just a click thing to get it over with. Voting is not what i would say is for true answer and bad answer it is just a click thing we do to get a question out of system.

While it would be nice, this is a free service so I don't think they can afford to do so. Instead, people should only vote for answers they know to be correct. This site depends upon good users.

yes, I think people that don't have some sort of knowledge or education in math should STAY AWAY FROM THIS SECTION!!!!! And people shouldn't answer questions they are not sure about.

Sometimes the asker picks the incorrect answer as well.

it's something beyond mathematics - quite often in real life 'wrong's are declared winners ...
