All babies like the TV that is why it has become America's favorite babysitter. My son is 6 months old and he too liked to watch tv I think the commercial must have a catchy tune or bright colors they really enjoy that. Shut it off. I know you enjoy your shows but enjoy your boy more. My boy would sit there all day if you let him (I never have). I have some of the baby einstein they are good but do you sit there and watch with him? That is what yoour supposed to do, supervised TV only. Tell him about what is on the Tv or what is on the dvd. Make each moment the learning experience it is for both of you. Believe me he will watch enough when he gets older just shut it down for now and GROW and ENJOY

Do not let your baby sit in front of the TV or have the TV on where he can ZONE OUT watching the signal -- seriously, that is exactlyw hat happens, the mind just zones out and studies have proven that no TV for children under 2 years old is best.
Be a good mom and turn off the TV and spend some time stimulating your child with a board book, flash cards, rolling a ball, going for a walk -- anything but TV!

I would try just leaving the tv off for a week. Since he's only seven months, he will mostly likely forget about it after a week. Hide the remote and put duct tape over the buttons on the tv. They have done studies that say allowing children under the age of two to watch tv (even so called educational tv, like baby einstein) will put him at increased risk for obesity and well, um, stupidity as he gets older. I think our society in general is geared towards too much "screen time", that is to say tv watching, computer time, and video game playing. This from the girl who has just spent the last two hours online answering questions on this site, lol, but I'm also a mother and I have removed tv from my 18 month old's world, ever since I started realizing how much she depending on it for stimulation.

Don't worry about it!!! My toddler loved to watch tv too when she was a baby, not so much now. As long as you play with your child, and interact with him as much as possible particularly talking and singing, and definitely reading, you'll find he'll lose interest in tv. You should also try to watch the educational stuff with him and discuss it with him as he gets older, eg point out different animals, letters, colors etc and then relate it to his home environment such as his room or walks in the park. And for any judgemental people out there who think i"m crazy, my daughter is extremely smart and at 2 1/2 doesn't just repeat an alphabet song but can recognise letters and numbers without prompting or putting into ryhme. Finally, do switch it off completely sometimes and enjoy your child, these times are very prescious!

Yes it is bad for him! Another couch potato in the making. Don't let the TV be a baby sitter. It all starts innocently enough, but when he gets older and insists on sitting in front of the TV all day instead of going outside to play you can look back on this and see how it all started. Even at seven months limit the amount of TV that he watches.

Sure has done wonders for my son's brain development. My oldest loved watching television from about 6 months to 4 years and he learned so many good things like counting to 10 in Spanish from Dora, counting and ABC's with Elmo and even songs off Blue's Clues like no more money's jumping on the bed.
My 14 month old has never liked t.v. that much and now thinking back five years ago when my son was a baby I could get my chores done and spend pleasure time with him to were as her I am constantly trying to find entertainment and never get anything done.
Enjoy the time he spends watching t.v. he is learning and you are getting a short brake in the meantime.

It is a mistake to let children of any age watch excessive amounts of TV. At your son's age any TV is too much. You don't want his developing mind to be full of garbage. If you absolutely cannot (or will not) get him away from the TV then go and invest in one of those "learn to read video game systems" like from Leap Frog. Sure he won't know how to do it right now, but he will try and at least he will be introduced to the letters and learning.

People in the baby brain field say that teli for young babies up to about 2 1/5 can be very bad for them.Because they are so young they obsorb almost everything. So the teli uses that room for nonsence. While if you have enough time try to help him with educational stuff.Instead of letting him glue himself to the teli.I am not blaming you for bad parenting or anything.Sorry if my message sounds a bit mean.

I personally think that it is just fine to let him watch some in moderation. I think Baby Einstein and the new baby developmental channel help them. As long as its in moderation. I watched a lot of educational television as a child and along with my parents reading to me constantly I learned to speak and read at a young age.

As the saying goes, "Everything in moderation."
As long as it's not excessive I think it's OK. It of course, should be age appropriate, so I think Baby Einstein is a good choice. However, I think it's also very important to play with him and nurture him.
It won't kill him once and a while, but it's better less than more.
