If it is not the tractor-trailor type you need a class B.

depends on the weight and if it has air breaks if it is under 26K GVW and has no air breaks then you dont need a CDL if it is 26001 GVW and over you need a CDL but if all you are gonna do is drive a dump truck just get a Class B if you think you are gonna want or need to pull a trailer get a Class A but if you are going to the trouble to get a cdl why not just get the best and get a Class A

Class A is only for pulling a trailer, so unless you plan on pulling a trailer behind the dump truck then it will be either class B or just a regular class C. Which one it is depends on the weight of the truck. If it has a gross vehicle weight rating over 26,000 pounds, then you will need a class B, otherwise, just stick with your class C.

Dump truck is a class/B.....I have one ...class A is for traitor trailers.
