Your question, along with each and every answer provided to you, has some sort of spelling or grammatical error. It is imperative to know how to spell and speak English correctly so that a person can easily be understood and communicate effectively with other people. English is the most widely used language on this planet. I am often appalled at how often I see or hear grammatical mistakes. Our nation, despite the decent educations children get, is full of people who do not know how to properly put together a sentence or read at a level equivalent to their age/grade level. This is very problematic, and I think that people should take more pride in how they present themselves to the world.

English is important because since the early 1700's it has been crucial in trade and economics in general. This is from the British who established colonizes on several continents and therefore laid down the foundation for English to become a world-wide language since some people (although not many at the time) spoke it. Then I would assume that local tribes or bands of people or however they had settled into their civilizations realized that trade and general passing of information with the British would prove critical for their survival and good reputation with them so they just accepted it sooner or later.
But as for the modern day society I believe that it stuck around for a long time because the British still hold on to the rights of many places throughout the world like the Falkland Islands off the coast of Argentina, some of the southwest Pacific islands and I could have sworn hearing that they still had an island off Madagascar. Plus the British were exceptional explorers, being some of the first to explore Africa other than native tribes. They also were the first to officially colonize the new world along with the French so English's foundations as a world language go a long way back.

It's been important since the sun never set on the British Empire. The British happened to colonise quite a few very important places that were very unimportant at the time and their investments paid off.
