either there is an air leak in the system allowing the water to drain out of the pump or the pump has a leaky seal. if you decide to leave it on, get a power strip and plug the pump into it because it has circuit breaker protection if something goes wrong. don't want to come home to smoking ruins because of an electrical fire.

Without a drawing of your system one can only assume. If your system is air over hydraulics, the air is compressed by the pumped water which gives an even pressure. You can run a small 1/4" line with a small check valve from the exit pipe of the tank to the point between the pump and the foot valve. This will solve the seeping problem for a longer period. The foot valves do tend to seep over time. ucsted@yahoo

i would go to the supply house and get a new foot valve. it sound like it may be leaking by just enough for it not to draw water.
