Car was running fine yesterday, then I went and got back in it...it started for 6 seconds and died. The engine is trying to turn over, but it is not getting spark. I checked the coil pack, and it is fine. I have the distributorless model. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And please dont tell me that the cavalier is junk, I know already.

Coil packs are OK but you have no spark? Hmm. Not sure why you wouldn't have spark if the coil packs were OK. Trigger for the coil packs? Timing belt broke? Other thought is that maybe you lost the fuel pump (although it has nothing to do with the spark). Can you hear the fuel pump running?

here is something my husband does when he is trying to see if it is getting any kind of spark but it gives him a pretty good zap if it is. He will pull a plug at a time holding the plug wire with the plug back in the wire he will bump it (or actually have me bump the keys) if you see or better yet feel a spark you know that it is at least getting spark to that point if none then you know its in the firing system.

have you checked your fuel pump cause that could make it not start as well it could have went out on you. you can hear it if it is working by turning on your ignition and listen towards the gas tank and you can hear it running if not that is your problem.
