If you have kids, I agree with staying at Exaclibur, Luxor or Circus Circus. Mandalay Bay, while expensive has the best wave pool. Circus Circus is older and the rooms are not that nice. Its at the faaaaar end of the strip and walking to where the other casino's are is far..and in August it will be miserably hot. Plus that is not the safest end of the strip either, so I wouldnt recommend venturing out too late at night down there with the kids. If you want to be in the middle of things, try Excalibur, Mirage, Treasure Island, Bally's (although not geared towards kids). As a whole the casino's are not for kids persay. They have great pool areas and exhibits and shopping. NYNY has a roller coaster but Circus Circus has an indoor amusement park. You wont be spending much time in your room so think about that too. There is a really nice place off of the strip, not far..a little further than walking distance but you can get good rates at The Orleans. One on the other side of town and a 5 minute drive is Green Valley Ranch. It was the casino on "American Casino". Off the strip properties are just as nice and a short distance from the strip. You can spend all day and evening on the strip and have a nice view from anywhere in the Valley. If price is of importance, then think about that as well. The Valley is not that big and you can be at the strip from any of the outer properties in less 5-15 minutes.

I lived in Vegas last year and can recommend any of the MGM properties. Weekends rates no matter where will be high. Start with Hotels.com to see if there are any deals and compare them to the hotel's website.

Fridays and Saturdays are far more expensive then weekdays. If you can reverse your trip you'll save money by avoiding the weekend. Circus Circus is reasonable and good for kids but not in the best area of the strip. You may be better off at the Imperial Palace. It's reasonable and right in the center of the strip. You'll be across from the Mirage and Treasure Island and close to all the major casinos. Watch out for the weather. It is Very Hot in August.

If you have young children going, you may want to consider a hotel geared towards them, like Excalibur, Luxor, or Circus Circus. Circus Circus would be one of the lowest price options on the Las Vegas Strip. It will be very hot in August, so a nice swimming pool is most likely going to be important. The Tropicana Resort is an economical hotel on the Strip with one of the nicest pools for the money. If you are looking for a moderately priced family hotel, MGM Grand would be my suggestion. It is has nice rooms, is clean, great dining, pool, and is in a good location.

Circus Circus, is the best place for kids, they have an amusement park, and the Circus level with tons of games and a free show. There is a McDonald's on the Circus level, a tiny little pizza place on the casino level (but very close to the Circus level). They also have an excellent breakfast buffet that kids enjoy. DO NOT STAY IN THE MANOR part of the hotel. (outside doors ) stay in one of the towers. The rooms in the towers are big but the beds are a bit stiff. Overall a good value. (Tip...if you use the valet plan on a very long wait getting the car....if you are in a hurry send someone down ahead of the rest!!)

Circus Circus is perhaps you best choice and the least expensive but watch out for the video games they can suck in qaurters faster than the slots. If you can take a step up I would consider Excalibur as a fatastic place for the kids and it is located on my personal favorite area of the strip. For some fantastic prices check travelfunjet.com where you can book the hotel only or you may be able to place a hold on a room through a family freindly travel agency such as ours.

Like some others that have already responded, the Stratosphere is a great place to stay for the money spent. they have maximum of your playing needs plus some shops, McDonald's and Starbucks. Is it older than quite a few the others and on the North end of the Strip? definite. even however, there's a monorail station and bus stop quickly around the line making shuttle a breeze. we've stayed there diverse situations (and we walked from there to the Luxor without concern) and luxuriate in having the greater effective $$$ to spend rather than blowing it on a room that we are going to no longer spend lots time whatsoever. in case you do stay on the Stratosphere, be certain you examine out fortunate's diner. They run specials approximately each 6 hours and you gets a outstanding meal for low-priced. wish this enables!

I recently found that the summer months are very expensive in Vegas. Try to find a 'deal' by searching the web and trying some travel agents. It's not so much the hotel as the 'deal' that will save you money in the summer!

1st - security is not an issue on Strip so forget that item as regards picking a place. Circus-Circus best option if must be on Strip as opposed to Downtown or elsewhere. Excalibur #2.
