I have noticed that most girls around the age of 17 seem to think they're more mature than other girls their age. Is it just me? Or do I just happen to run into the "quacks"? Obviously it can't be possible that they are all more mature than all the others.

I don't think it's just girls, it's a teenaged thing. Do you think 17-year-old boys aren't the same?

Children mature at different rates and are generally physically fully grown by 16 in girls and 18 in boys and mentally by 22 in girls and 23 in boys or about when you get your wisdom teeth. It is possible that some girls you know are more mature in one way or another than most other girls you know because their brains are still developing at different rates. Ren has a good point. It shows one quirk of an almost fully developed brain. When you were 14, did you see yourself as childish or immature? Look at a 14 year old now, doing the same stuff you used to do. I bet they look pretty immature. The more grown-up you get the more childish other children will seem. Kat s also has a good point: You cant see yourself getting taller so why would people feel themselves getting more mature? You can't. You just know that you are the most mature that you have ever felt and you cant comprehend feeling even more mature.

Oh, I think I can give you the best answer as a soon to be 27 year old woman. We all thought we were WAY MORE MATURE than we were because we didn't know any better. All I knew was, I was 1 year from being 18; a senior in High School, hot, and I had my whole life ahead of me. I was adult enough to buy cigarettes (I quit at 18, though, thank God), but still too young to buy beer. What a time. Man, what I would give to look like I did when I was 17 but know what I know now. lol

I was such a little idiot, even though I was still smart enough to be a little republican. lol (libertarian leaning, though)

We just were young. When your young you think you know it all. It's a shame youth is wasted on the young. lol There is no real answer to your question except lack of experience and ignorance. You really don't know anything until your paying real taxes at the end of the year as opposed to getting a check. lol

yes guys are defiently the same way!..like im 17 and turning 18 soon, i am way more mature than i was in middle school, because i just take on so much duties in my house and have two jobs and am paying my own way through college, my ex friends who are female are still extremly immature even though they consider themselves to be mature and that they've grown up, but guys are extremly immature when they are teenagers, they just do stupid silly things, in my school at least, its not just girls, there is quite a lot of quacks, there always will be tons of them, i consider myself to be mature and others agree, its just most are not and some actually are

Well, I am 17 and I know I am far from mature. I have maturity, but I'm not fully mature in the adult sense of the word. In my opinion, I am still a kid and I am really not ready to be on my own and do "adult things". It scares the crap out of me to think about it, but I know that it will happen after I graduate next year. But, referring to your question, most 16-18 year olds think they have gone through just about every hardship (which we all know they havent) and they think that it makes them mature because they have gone through a heartbreak or actually paid for something. When they actually experience REAL hardships and go through them, then they will realise that they aren't mature.

to a point wen growing up we all like to think we act and look older then we are but now days most of us have to go through allot more at a younger age because it is presented to us. Giving us more freedom and treating us like adults introduces us to this big bad world and we do what we can to blend in and try to survive. People need to re-define the age boundaries and accept the laws else the idea of youth and a childhood is going to be lost. I have looked at those my age and i am more mature then them and can relate to those older then me and it is scary that i have grown up to fast but as i say its a tool to survive people now days just seem to want to taint youth, steal innocence and take advantage of the naive so what choice do we have ?

Maybe they're just full of themselves at that age. I think it's pretty common for people to think they're more mature then they really are, especially when you're younger. Kids always want to do what "grown-ups" do.
