Online video games are my husband's only source of enjoyment it seems. We barely talk all evening and spend time in seperate rooms. He's become lazy and won't give up the games. I've been contemplating divorce. I've suggested we go for walks, bike rides, watch TV together....anything. But, he doesn't like any of my suggestions and resorts to gaming every night. Does anyone else have this problem?

His addiction is the Xbox 360 Live (which means he's contiuosly talking to others online thru a headset). So, all night (6 hours+) he plays games. He has more of a relationship with his online friends than his wife anymore. If I (the human in the house) interrupt him, or am ready to leave and go somewhere, I get yelled at or told we have to wait till he finishes this level. I'm 30. If I knew my life was gonna be this lame I wouldn't have married him. (He got the Xbox right after our marriage). It's truly an addiction and he doesn't see it that way. He thinks I'm joking if I suggest divorce. Gaming isn't our only issue either. Should I leave?

My man is a definite gamer....this really doesn't bother me...at least he is at home, safe, and doing something he enjoys..there are a lot worse things he could be doing...we all have our addictions....with my guy, if I am feeling neglected, I either tell him how I'm feeling and ask for a lil time together or play with him....find a game you like to play together...or try this compromise..give him a certain time that it is cut off game time and spend time with me...if he is not willing to compromise, then yes there may be a serious problem...however, seeking divorce over it seems a bit extreme...maybe try counseling....

I'd like an update on this situation from the original asker, I am facing the same thing, except we have 2 children that are also being neglected. How did this work out for you?

Not anymore.... My ex had his own "computer" room, yadda,yadda,yadda.... Life is too short. If your life is full of other things and male companionship is not high on the list, what's it going to hurt to stay married. If you have other aspirations involving an involved marital partner, then you might want to cut your losses now. Life without man, until the right man comes along, is better than life with the wrong man!!

No let him O.D. on it then he'll get burned out eventually. Could just be a phase. But if it goes on for a very very long time....you should consider some outside intervention (i.e. marrital counseling).

I would probably divorce unless he is the one "bringing home the bread." If you really think you cold do better without him go for it. There are probably lots of guys out there waiting for you. Assuming you are not over forty.

Start playing video games yourself. I'm sure he'd be glad to guide you through everything.
Why should he conform to what you want if you won't conform to what he wants?

I have that problem but mine is with the playstation. the playstation is in our bedroom. I've took one back to the store, pawned one and made him sell one. He keeps getting more.
