I somehow doubt they spend it wisely. My bets are for a couple of cigs to last until tomorrow or a liter of Coke from 7-11.

Better yet, shouldn't we just give beggers food instead of money?

In my job I am frequently in contact with lots of them. Mostly they buy alcohol, but occasionally they buy cheap cigarettes. There is one that I know that saves up and spends a fair amount of it on marijuana and this has given him a decent case of schitzophrenia. You will also notice that there are a lot less of them around during winter and they come back in summer looking a lot better. This is because they commit a minor offence and spend winter using taxpayers money in jail.

your so right some times they need the money for booze so they dont go through withdrawls and most places have a food center to get hot meals if they want. see if you give money for every one that askes you will run out of money before you get to the end of the block. so be careful and sometimes they need bus fair because they are short.

They blow it on liquor or drugs. Or both. Don't ever give a bum money. If they say they want it to buy food, take them to a restaurant and offer to pay for their meal. If they decline your offer, then they only want another "fix" of whatever they use. Tell em' to go fu*k off!

Be careful when you turn your back on someone asking for your help, money wise or anything else because it could be an Angel.

Drugs and alchohol.
But I might be stereotyping.

They might buy food and coffee.

If you really want to help - go buy them a sandwich. Don't give them money.
