I heard on TV the other day that Clay has raked in over $27,000,000 so far, but Ruben has earned much, much less. Does the title really mean anything anymore?

Clay should have won that season. Sounds like America is voting with its dollars.

most of the winners I find have been popularity contest winners except for the 2 females who have actually became big stars.

I don't see nothing coming out the other 3 as they limit themselves with the music genre they choose to enter such as Ruben.

Carrie underwood sings country but is more of a pop country that pop fans like, same thing with the first winner, her music breaks thru multiple types of fans.. that's why number 2 and others voted off do better.. they market themselves and the music over broader audiences

Because people listened to Randy jackson instead of Clay Aiken. I don't like either but Clay is a little better

No...American Idol winners (and most contestants) are giant poseurs - especially the rock-n-roll dorks. Ruben had no personality. He could sing but I don't care for his music and would turn it off if it was on my radio. I don't really care for Clay either, but at least he had personality.

No, I don't think the voters get it right, I mean Fantasia won but you never really hear anything about her. I think they vote for who they like and don't think about it in terms of "if they had a cd would i buy it?"

According to this no. I think it all depends on who's got the looks and talent.
