Don't reinstall anything simply click on start button, settings, the click network connections,, find your connection either dial up or lan click on it then general tab at the bottom it will have a properties button,, at the bottom of that put check marks in the show icon and connectivity boxes,, click ok and close it,, if it doesn't show up then in your bar,, then reboot the computer and it will.
Hope that fixes your issue.

go to control panel, network connections. right click your internet connection icon and choose properties. there's an option at the bottom, a check box, "show icon when connected" or something like this.
