Ok so I'm getting married on July 1st 2006. I think I have the whole name change thing underway but how do I go about changing my son's last name. He has my last name and the man I am marrying is his biological father so we want to all have the same last name. Where do I start, who do I contact any info or experiences would be helpful.

OK I don't think people got that. My fiance IS my son's dad. We had a baby. Now we are getting married and I will obviously take his last name and we also need to change our son'e last name so that we all have the same last name. Does anyone know who I would contact or what needs to be done to change your son's last name when both biological parents want it done.

I believe you need to contact the family court in Detroit, call friend of the court, they may be able to answer this for you. I think it is the same court where you file divorces through, but look in the yellow pages under attorneys. Many do free phone counseltation, and ask which court to go through and if you need an attorney. Contact the court, they will tell you what you need to do to accomplish this. If it sounds like too much to do on your own. Find an attorney to file the briefs for you. I live in Mi. too. Good luck

Why would you want to take away your sons last name?Unless your new husband is going to adopt him.

hmmm...probably have to change it through his birth certificate, if you didn't give him his dad's name, when he was born....So contact your state, where his birth certificate is registered at, and go from there....it'll probably be a long, involved process...
