I don't know how old you are but when I was younger I would go to the ice skating rink (normally alone) and once you go a lot you see familiar faces and you can start talking to them. One girl I met there is one of my closest friends now. I also used to go to this place that had laser tag/bowling/and pool and talk to people there. You could also meet new people if you got a job somewhere. I know when I worked at Wendys I made a lot of friends there. Also if you are outdoors-y, there is a club in my city that has all kinds of outdoor adventures you can go on (like hiking, kayaking, dog walks), and everyone there is nice. You could try finding something like that in your hometown. Good luck!

Just start talking with anyone you see. I have started by talking with the person in line with me the bank, grocery store, fast food places, the list goes on. Then there is all the people I have meet through answering questions, myspace and just searching for people with same interest as I have.
