every now and then when i have a problem in the appartment, the rude managers always try to assume i did something wrong. i have lived here for 6 years, before they became the manager. so they say" if its your fault you will have to pay for the repair" . one time it was my garbage disposal( it was old as dirt) . this time is was the tub draining slow...well rotor rooter came out and had to go on the roof? well the end result was - hair and gunk.... so the manager says, next time i have to call them out for hair you will have to pay for it... its my fault i have hair? is that legal?

If you have noticed a pattern of unprofessional behavior and have proof of it report them to the company that owns the complex. It should be listed in your contract. If it is hair in the drain, I am uncertain but I know that where a friend of mine lives, it was mentioned that if they brake it they pay for it. This is something that if it was within your reach, might apply but if it was down inside I would say they are responsible. If you do feel harassed and have valid proof go over the management and to the owners. Good renters are hard to find........ If you are a good tenant speak your mind on the matter........ Six years is valid proof that you are.......

It is the apartments responsibility to maintain the working condition of the apartment.
Depending on your state it could be put on you. To alleviate any issues I would go to Home Depot and buy a product called, "10 minute hair dissolver" which is designed to "eat" the hair up so the drain does not clog. It costs like 10-15 bux for 2 bottles that are almost a gallon in size. It will be alot cheaper than having to duke it out with the management.

Hmm, my understanding is if you are renting the landlord usually takes care of maintenance like that and you pay only if you really break something or mess something up, but I am not a lawyer so I cant tell you for sure.

It is not legal for them to charge you sor an incident like that. Unless you are purposely damaging the rental property, they can not charge you. Look in the phone book for the nearest renters resource center, there are places that you can report this too and they help protect renters rights.

You should check your lease agreement to see if it states that you are responsible for these type of repairs. If it does not mention them, then you may have a valid complaint. However, you will probably have to file a lawsuit in small claims court

No, the landlord is responsible for anything that is "attached" to the foundation...ie: garbage disposal, drains...even the stove and fridge.

You may want to mention your landlord's behavoir to the housing authority.
