This will depend on the type of Ignition. IF, it Points in the Distributor, try checking the "Condenser" it a silver round with one wire going to the points. To check; First, remove and touch the connector to the metal case. Take an Analog OHM meter, set to Rx1, Rx100 whatever, not matter. Touch Negative to case and Positive to Connector, wait a few second and watch the Needle. You should see it slowly move. Then set the meter to the lowest DC Voltage setting and with the Leads on the same parts of the Condenser, it should show 1.5 Volts. This shows the condenser working.
IF, it electronic ignition (No Points) unplug the Pickup Coil inside the Distributor it under the Rotor. Two wires to the Ignition Module. OHM the wires, it should be around 100 OHMs. IF not the Pickup Coil may be bad. IF, it good it probably the ignition module. Some Auto Parts store can check it for you. Let me check to be sure what the Actual OHMs are on the Pickup Coil.
