Cross country is long distance ran usually outside of a track. Track is shorter distances ran on a oval or round track indoor or outdoor or other events taking place around the track such as shot put, long jump, etc.

cross country is running for long distances (think 3.1 miles)
track is more short spurt races and can be easier if you have the speed (track is also hurdles and field events like shot put and so on)
