ive heard that there is an island off the coast of main that is/ or has an artists colony on it, but it also has cabins to rent...can anyone give me some info?

It sounds to me that you are talking about the Vinylhavens (there are two, North & South) and they are accessible by boat, roughly a half hour cruise, depending on the port you are coming from off the mainland. I have not been to the islands directly as I was involved in offshore wildllife study, but my guide described them as great places for artists, in terms of being a community based upon that. The area is beautiful, and there is also Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park not far north of the Vinylhavens. I love the area and think it is the prettiest place in the east half on the country. I heartily reccommend it!

i really do not know i have never been to maine...but i imagine what you heard is probably right..there should be a travel agent that could give you some advice on your question...but i never ever heard of a artist colony..might be a interesting place to vist though....hope you enjoy yourself when you go...
