Isn't a bad idea still a bad idea even if most of the people like the idea? Shouldn't we be using a better way to decide important issues? What other ways are there?

There are lots of other ways. If you are talking about the political process in places like the United States, it is certainly true that a lot of bad ideas are made into bad laws and bad practices.

What history has shown, is as bad as it is, it is better than any other system that has been tried (and lots and lots have been tried).

For example, many states, for many years, let the crowned head of state make the bad decisions. Some were very good (or you might say bad) at it.

I'm sure you know enough history to recognize that there are lots of variations of a few themes but that the best and brightest civilizations have operated by "the voice of the people".

The concept behind majority opinion is unity. Some people believe, and I happen to agree with them, that it's better to be unified than right.

If we do something in unity, we will be more likely to find the right way through trial and error than if one person goes against the decision and does the "right" thing, causing disunity and animosity among the group.

This, of course, only applies to group decision making and not life in general.
