Are Conservatives more tolerant than Liberals?

I just read an answer where someone said this, and I wondered if it may actually be true. After all, despite the fact that liberal almost by definition means tolerant, we aren't quite so easy going with Conservatives. I guess you could even say we won't tolerate the intolerent. I don't have any sources to back this up, but it seems there are an awful lot of intolerent people in this world, a number easily as big as the number of Black people, or Muslim people or Gay people. Wouldn't then our prejudice towards them be as bad as that which we accuse them of?

Liberals think they're more tolerant because they tolerate a number of high-profile things that conservatives don't tolerate, such as homosexuality, prostitution, abortion, and marajuana (your list of tolerences may vary, of course. You may not tolerate pot, while some conservatives may have no problem with homosexuals. This is just a starting point for the purposes of my answer here).

There are things and people that liberals can't (or won't) tolerate that conservatives tolerate just fine. Religious people, for example. Many liberals just plain HATE people who believe in God. Worse, they can't stand the idea that people who believe in God would like to see God's influence in government and schools.

Many liberals have a low tolerence for shows of patriotism and anything to do with the military. Liberals tend to look down on patriots. I've heard some describe anyone who loves the USA as mindless sheep who don't really know what's going on. I'm not saying liberals hate the USA (although you must admit some do), but your average liberal isn't out there waving flags, and I don't know any who get choked up over the national anthem. Many liberals think we'd have universal peace if we'd just disband the military and throw away our nukes.

Liberals won't tolerate a successful business. Well, unless said business never caused any small business owners to lose sales. Liberals HATE Wallmart like conservatives hate abortions. And Microsoft? Big oil companies?

So if you're a successful businessman, especially in the oil industry, who loves his country and prays regularly, liberals will universally hate you. George Bush never had a chance.

As for race, I think the idea that one party or another is racist was invented by the liberals. I've never met anyone who espoused racist doctrine. And the only person I've met who's openly sexist was a lawyer with a SIGNED picture of Bill Clinton in his office.

Conservatives are never tolerant.

Have you ever had a creditor call you? That is what conservatives are like when you speak your mind.

Conservatives are stubborn. If they hear something they don't agree with they will yell. They will call you names. They will call you a PACIFIST...not a Liberal.

Conservatives are ruled by fear, money and image. They voted because they were scared of making the wrong decision about 9/11, the Administration was either giving them money or it was donated for the win and conservatives feel they have an image to protect.

Conservatives aren't tolerant!!! They are greedy and dishonest with themselves and others. They yell when they don't get what they want or hear what they want.

If you don't believe write a new question that says this......

I'm a Liberal.....what do you conservatives have to say to me as a human being? In the detail section state how liberals feel. The insults just keep coming and you never really get a sane explanation.

NO. Liberals are more tolerant of everything, except conservatives. Stop looking at who likes what and who.

Know rather that : Conservatives by nature are Perfectionists while Liberals are Opportunists. This is why conservatives worship Policy and liberals worship Programs.

Now everyone is confused. As Pogo noted - there is left of center and there is right of center, but sometimes the road changes!*

Left, right, conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat, are four words which no longer have any common meaning that can be taken up for intelligent debate.

While Liberals are more tolerant, in order to foster money making programs, both fight for tolerance honors at election time. Then it is hard to tell one from the other.

I would honestly say conservatives are more tolerant than liberals.
I think you misunderstand what conservatives are. Only the extreme ones are against gays and minorities, just like only the extreme liberals are PETA vegan hippie freaks.

Generally speaking, conservatives actually listen to all sides of the story and make their own decisions based on their own conclusions.
Liberals, on the other hand, are emotional and quite hateful against people who do not agree with their way of thinking.

For an example, ask a conservative what they think of Bill Clinton.
Then ask a liberal what they think of George Bush.

A world of difference.

Most assuredly we Conservatives are more tolerant.

...and here is a definition of liberal from www.dictionary.com: Of, designating, or characteristic of a political party founded on or associated with principles of social and political liberalism, especially in Great Britain, Canada, and the United States.

This doesn't necessarily mean tolerant - just politically opposed to other views.

I would say no its the Conservatives that don't want to hear any criticism not the liberals. The Conservatives in the States don't listen to the rest of the world the Liberals are the rest of the world

I would say conservatives are probably more tolerant of class and education level than liberals. This is my honest answer. I think liberals are very tolerant of race and sexual orientation, but less tolerant when it comes to regionalism, class and social status. Shock radio guys not withstanding, as I do not think they are representative of most Americans.

You cant pigeon-hole everyone into one of two political catagories and then generalize the tolerant characteristics about a whole group of people based on their political persuasion. We are all individuals - what kind of question is this?

yes, except we are not tolerant of liberals. Just listen to The Michael Savage radio show.
