Okay by a good condenser microphone like one of these http://shopping.yahoo.com/search;_ylc=X3oDMTFncmo3bG5vBF9HA2dsb2JhbF9ncm91cARfUwMyNzE2MTQ5BHNlYwNzZWFyY2gEc2xrA2J1dHRvbg--?p=condenser+usb+microphone&fr=FP-tab-prod-t-t400&toggle=1&cop=&ei=UTF-8
Then a pop screen like one of these http://shopping.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=ApcB5QrNPw9B_4rxQnHGPKEbFt0A;_ylu=X3oDMTBtNTA5a3RqBF9zAzE0NDg5MTE1BHNlYwNzZWFyY2g-?p=pop+filter&did=
Then download this free software called Audacity here http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Then get a beat for your song at http://www.soundclick.com/genres/charts.cfm?genre=Instrumentals Soundclick.com Instrumentals. There are tons of free beats for u to use there. After u got your beat make lyrics for it then burn it to a cd and put it on your cd player or put it on your mp3 player. Then open Audacity put your headphones on play your beat and record yourself singing to it. After your done you will have an acapella of your song (acapella means just vocals). Then in audacity go to Project, Import Audio then click your beat. Then you will have on track on top of your acapella and on the bottom your beat. Then get your acapella lined up the way you want to with the align tracks button that looks like this
http://www.sniff.org/pulp/sizewe.gif
but black. Then save your song and export as an mp3. After your song is done get an account at http://www.soundclick.com
and upload your files to your artist account. Then if u r good you will get popular. After you get more and more popular you may soon get a deal at a record company. Or if u r lookin for a deal sooner take your songs and burn them to a cd and send whatever label you want to get on a demo of 5 songs. Thats basically it. If u dont understand audacity just go here

for tutorials.

The key is networking.
Most bands write together, there is usually one primary, but they hardly ever work alone. Alot of times you need that one person to kick your creativity up.
Just surround yourself in the business, use MySpace as a start, go to local gigs, and scout. Alot of bands have a manager ( usually someone in the band handles it on local level) and just talk to people.
I have seen people put ads in the paper. Even on the internet.
You have to crawl before you can run. Start small, cut your teeth for a year and move to the next level.
Noone is an overnight success in this business.
Best of luck , and don't stop doing what you love.

Go to Karaoke at different places for a year or so and see if a crowd likes you, and maybe get discovered by a small time band if you're any good. But also seek out bands. But that all depends on if you're any good. Don't even worry about an agent or anything like that now, find a band.

Try to think of something that gets your brain going. Listen to the radio and get some ideas on what to write about. Create a demo tape and send it to some of the record companies.
