Not a lot, I'm afraid.

When my first wisdom tooth came through, it became impacted and infected. The dentist had to try to clear away the pus and put me on antibiotics before he could look at removing the tooth. He gave me Panadeine Forte for the pain (that is, 30mg codeine and 500mg paracetamol per tablet).

You could try clove oil, though don't swallow it because it can be toxic. A friend of mine who is pregnant uses that to help ease her tooth pain as she doesn't want to be ingesting medications. You need to rinse your mouth out afterwards.

Another option could be to put a teething gel on your gum, to help numb it a bit. Two good possibilities are Bongella and SM33. Bongella is a lot less offensive as far as taste goes, but in my opinion, SM33 is far more effective at anaesthetising the area.

You really do need to get this checked by a dentist as if there is an infection, and it's left untreated, it can turn into septecemia (blood poisoning) which ultimately can kill you. In this day and age, it's a simple thing to treat, which is why almost no one in developed countries dies from an infected tooth - but if you don't fix it, the ramifications could be serious.

Hope that helps some. I know it's horrible. I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed - not much fun, I know. Good luck. :)
