It's detrimental to the companies they will be working for when they are forced to hire less qualified people based solely on racial quotas. This isn't fair to caucasian people. Should we pass a law to protect caucasian people?

That is old fashioned thinking on their part. Now I believe its an insult to those who have worked hard to overcome any racial bias. I think its racist on the Liberals part for thinking that race should still be a factor.

I'm a liberal and i do not believe anyone should be hired on race, infact you've kind of got it a little wrong, thats discrimination and is illegal to actually have quota's. That doesn't mean companies do not have them secretly, so thats where you have to take it up with the companies. As far as a law to protect caucasians, what about every other race? who will protect them from this law? Most companies i know hire upon quality anyway, where i work, interviews, former jobs, references, everything mattered to make sure i was qualified. If companies find someone they don't think is qualified that they don't like, they usally don't get hired.

The real problem was that there is cultural mainstream America only hired caucasian people ignoring fully qualified minorities.., the hiring policy was based on race... This levels the playing field. Why should main stream society need a law to protect them if they have all the money, employment and land. Do you think it is fair that because what race they are born into.., they should get it all... I think the word is share....

What makes u think a minority being hired has to be less qualified? A minority can indeed be the best person for the job. Millions of people hold degrees, have experience, have excellent references and present themselves well in job interviews...not just white people. A white person can no longer count on getting "good jobs" just because they're white.

BTW, why do white women, who've statistically benefitted the most from affirmative action, speak against it?

furthermore, white people hold the majority of private sector jobs, the majority of land, the majority of wealth, and the majority of management positions in this country. Why u so worried about 25% of the population?

Also there is no such thing as racial preferences in affirmative action. This is the rhetoric whites with poor performance will spew to justify their own failures.

Affirmative action states that minorities (including white women) must be given an OPPORTUNITY, not a guarantee, due to the fact that for centuries they were denied (illegally) even the opportunity for jobs, education, contracts, etc

get your facts straight, bigot

Oh yeah, you're dead on man ... I've stolen about...hmmm ... let's see, hmmm ... um ... let me finish doing this counting in my head ... uh ... almost got it ... ZERO jobs from white people. I got all my jobs because I was actually the MOST qualified person for the positions and I also happened to be black. But you wouldn't know about qualified black folks NOT getting the job because and ONLY because they were black. Do you know what it's like for a manager to dismiss your resume because your name is Keisha (not my name, but I know people in HR and believe me, it happens) and you're assumed to be black...before they even see you? Do you know what it's like to have a person NOT hire you because you ARE black? Nooooooo...because your twisted mind has decided that racism against minorities doesn't exist anymore. I don't think it's fair for anyone to HAVE to hire a certain amount of minorities, but unfortunately we live in a society in which you have to make some people hire ANY minorities or they wouldn't do it, even if they were the most qualified ... including women (yes, even white women). So we can either let those people continue getting away with that or try and make the system a little more equal. And no, it's not perfect, but it's certainly better than the way it was before. I still see plenty of white folks employed. Most companies I have visited and the company I work for have a high percentage of white people ... and always will. So don't insult hard-working intelligent African Americans or other minorities by assuming they got their jobs just because they were a minority ... far more white people got their jobs just because they were white.

I think Affirmative Action accomplished the goals set up by its creators. I think the designers understood in planning that it would work fairly well for them. For one the makers were merely accommodating minorities by making AA in the first place. They didn't care either way, they only wanted to appear as if they were doing something for minorities. The reality though is that in invoking AA, you appeased minorities because something was done. And you also supposedly kept whiny Caucasians from being able to intelligently complain about it..how you ask. How do you know who is actually qualified and who isn't? For you to complain about it makes you look even more foolish, considering that even with AA, the majority of companies are still over majority non-minority. I think of it as a superiority complex..."I'm not a minority, I went to Harvard, there is no way i couldn't have gotten the job, must be that damn AA" Have you ever thought that maybe you just didn't interview well...think about it.

Most don't.

But you are talking about affirmative action, which has a goal of remedying past discrimination. But if you don't like the laws, since conservatives are in the majority (for the next few months), why don't you just change them.

Don't blame an entire political party (and a generation back at that) for trying to do the right thing decades ago, when racial discimination was such a problem that affirmative action was necessary.

It is based on a couple assumptions. Simplified: Non-white people tend to go to poorer schools, resulting in a poor education. Because this education puts them at a disadvantage, Affirmative action is supposed to get rid of the symptoms until the cause can be righted.

However, with the symptoms gone, there was no pressing reason to spend the resources to fix the cause.

Ah, well. That's how politics goes sometimes.

PS:What's up with the term, "Caucasian," anyway?

A Black Teacher I use to have did have an influence on my opposition to Affirmative Action, for instance he spoke about how wrong it was for a Job to decide to hire a less qualified Black person because he is Black.

I am like yeah no kidding and it is just as wrong to hire a less qualified White person because he is White.

Since there is a history of qualified people being passed over for merely being black, the pendulum has to swing back.

When employers can be relied upon to hire based on qualifications, affirmative action will disappear.

They don't care about productivity! They could care less about company profits or even a government offices efficiency. They only care about catering to a minority group that does support them at the polls on a regular basis.
