I am 51 years old and I decided to go back to school and get a business degree in Entrepreneurship because I am older and feel that opportunities for us are limited.

But you can still work at hotels, and work up in higher positions. I currently work at a hotel and plan on applying for jobs within the hotel after I get my degree, and the big plus is that they are paying for my education.

Valet jobs, drivers...school bus or city bus, parking meter readers, any city position.

Casino's as dealers
Waiters in banquets

Don't give up...it is attitude more than anything. Use your network of people that you know...they are a very good source of information.

What type of work were you doing before?

i am surprised you cannot get a job at your supposed "old age" of 50!!! what a crock!!!

by the way, to the jobless people who answered in a negative way - they obviously are clueless. if you have not socked away $100,000 in your ira by the time your 40 you can plan on working till 70. 50 is considered young these days. Open your eyes.

i love hiring older people, they have the gumption to get to work on time, they tend to be more ethical, they call in sick much less, they work harder and smarter (because they've done it), and most of them offer pearls of wisdom to the younger staff.

i would advise you to enter the public sector. School districts, military installations (yes they hire civilians), state, city and county jobs.

I have recently come across an amazing opportunity to work from home for the 3rd fastest growing company in the world, which has paid out over 2 billion dollars to consultants like me in the last 10 years (serious income potential). If you feel you may be interested in this opportunity email me at tni_jjc@yahoo.com.

No one wants to hire a 50 year old. Trust me, my grandma is 61 and she was looking for a job and no one (and I mean no one) wanted to hire her.
