Well first if you have hair there you will have to shave. I got one on the back of my leg and it didn't hurt that bad. How ever I was happy when she was done and it felt like I had a bad sun burn for a little while after. I have a tattoo that's about 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide lots of detail and color it took about an hour and a half to two hours. I am glad I got it. The only point I have emphasize is that you get one you will like the rest of your life. Cause if you try to remove it you will get a nice scar and if you leave it you won't be happy. Well good luck with your tattoo.

Upper arm inner or outer? The outer arm is one of the less painful areas. My work doesn't go below the t-shirt line so I can't talk about forearm tattoos, but as I understand it they're similar. It's such a minor deal that talking comfortably once you've acclimatized (5-10 minutes into the session) is no feat. The inner arm is another case altogether; it's pretty sensitive for most people. A friend got work going up to just below her armpit and despite her experience with tattoos in multiple locations, she reports it was a wholly new experience. Pain-wise, it's much like getting a sunburn scratched by a stiff brush. Well, except that it lasts longer... Also, the outlining is more intense than the shading. Shading is practically nothing in that area. The artist will almost certainly start with an outline and that will buffer up the endorphins for you. The later color & shading will hardly register after that. Addendum: Outer arm, check. My prediction is you'll leave the session thinking "that's it?".

The smaller the tattoo the less detail that can be done for your average tattoo artist. If you want it too small I would suggest looking in some tattoo magazines and study the artists, and then pay a bit more for something great instead of getting something that is chicken %$^& work because once its on your body all you can do with chicken$&^* is make chicken#$%& soup. Also it feels like a repeative bee sting. I can not stress this enough make sure you have a good repore with your artist don't just go into the studio and say I want that and point at something on the wall take some time look at what you want if you can't draw find aspects of what you want in magazines or on the web and trace them on a piece of paper, own your tattoo don't let it own you.

walk in the park I have a big round tattoo on my upper arm. I dont' care if it shows in Church or not. I got to church and they see all three of my tattoos. It's not about the legalsim it's about your relationship with the Lord.

Well, it depends how you handle pain. Some people can take more pain than others. But I have a few tattoos and it didn't hurt that much on my upper arm.

It hurts a lot, but don't worry because there are things that hurt more. One of them is...

Having a tattoo removed in 10 years time because either you don't want it anymore or fashion has moved on.

It's a fad, get over it, buy a dress or something.

If the tattoo person has a good topical anesthesia, it is not so bad.
I had my eyebrows tattooed, as they do not grow at the ends.
One topical anesthesia that was used did not work at all, and it hurt like hell!!
She tried another topical anesthesia, and I did not feel it much at all.

Wait at least one year before making a final decision. Most people want one, get it, and then regret it! Why people tattoo their bodies is beyond me! Over time they fade and stretch and are plain disgusting.

first of all, you have to be sure that is what you want and can live with it the rest of your life. Do get it where you can cover it with clothes, when you need to. put it where you have alot of skin, less pain. It is a stinging feeling, nothing you can't handle.
