I know that libs hold fast to the belief that only Republicans cause deficits because they have been fact-raped by the media into ignoring that the Democrat controlled Congresses for more than 40 years are who ran up the deficits.

Why don't they understand this?

"drdivo" -- that's funny because you actually couldn't be more wrong. There was a budget deficit in almost every year that the Democrats controlled Congress for the 40 years before Newt Gingrich took Congress from them. And since the House, not the President, is responsible for spending, and since the first surplus in more than 40 years occurred in the 1990's under a REPUBLICAN controlled House, it's "historically" Republicans that create increased tax revenues and lowered deficits, the current crop of nitwits excluded.

YOU should try reading some history before you come here and spout off and prove your ignorance my friend.

Democrats are the party of tax and spend. What is worse is the rhetoric about taxing the rich; but they will never define the rich. Since its been proven only 1/2 of the nation even pays taxes and they pay it all they are obviously catering to the half that does not. They hope by taxing the top 10 to 25% which is a lot of people that they can win the vast majority of those who don't pay and win elections.

The Republicans cut taxes and have proven that cutting them spurrs economic growth. It utlimately creates more revenue for the government then the higher taxes. Problem is elected leaders from both parties just can't stop spending.

IMAGINE....cutting taxes and just freezing the spending for 5 years. WOW..

Actually, you need to do more research. The only democratic Congress and president since the Second World War to increase the deficit was Johnson, who chose to fight the Vietnam War on debt instead of through a tax increase.

Historically, deficits decrease and tax collections (as opposed to tax rates) increase during Democratic administrations, whether or not the Congress is controlled by the Democratic party.

Except we have a Republican controlled congress for the last 12 years and we now have the largest budget deficit in history. So large that even Republicans are wondering what happened to them. Sorry, doesn't hold up.

The Republicans have controlled Congress since the 90s, and they have not passed a balanced (or surplus) budget once. Your premise is false.
