i cant believe nobody suggested a sledge hammer. that'll get the lid off.

take a fat ruber band and put it around the lid and also put one or two around the jar where you will be gripping it. Give it a good palm thud pat on the bottom once or twice and the twist er off.

put the lid under hot water or try taping the lid around the edges with a heavy spoon

run hot water over the lid then tap it a few times to loosen it

I have a HUGE pair of channel locks that can remove ANYTHING!

This pair has at least a 5" jaw gap! Biggest pair I ever saw, and I said to myself..."Yep, thats the right thing for ANY job!!"

Try tapping the lip with the handle of a butter knife, or knocking it (not too hard) on the side of a counter or table.

Have you tried holding it down in hot water for a couple of minutes?

Use a leather belt and wrap it once around the lid.
Oh, yes, and turn ANTI-clockwise to open it.....!
