every day in the news people hear of predators getting access to teens through myspace.com or any other website that allows teens on it. i believe those websites should just be for adults 18 and over. who agrees with me?

Exactly, it is the teenagers fault for not using the site correctly. Teen's here could have predators and be abducted too for not using this correctly. Myspace has safety features for young teenagers to help keep them safe. I use them and don't post personal info. Seriously, it is a matter of parental supervision and the teens common sense. Also teenagers can always find ways around it. I got a myspace at 13 even though it said 14 and up because you have to change the birthdate that's all.

It's kind of like drugs and alcohol if your parent teaches you to be safe then you will be. It really isn't that hard not to be accosted. Set it to private, lie about all personal info like birthday and town and only talk to people you know in real life online.

I agree to an extent. They should be allowed access to the site but not ALL OF IT. kind of like they are allowed to go into a movie theater but you have to be 17 or 18 to buy R rated tickets. If you say only 18 year olds can join the site, trust me 14 and 16 yr olds will lie and say oh I'm 18... those are the kids that are getting into trouble online also. You can only control children so much... There will unfortunately always be some way for pervos to meet young girls and until we start a camp and kill all of the sick f*cks, eliminating a site like myspace will do no good.

Nope, Teens typically find a way to get around that no teen rule of most sites anyhow. The problem is not the site but the fact that parents aren't talking with their kids about practicing internet safety and that going to meet someone off the internet is just plain dangerous.

I think its the responsibility of these kids PARENTS! Maybe if they monitored what their kids were doing online, than stuff like that wouldnt happen. I mean, these kids could have just as easily met some creep off of a chatroom. If they dont want their kids being exposed to things like that well then they need to be responsible and take the blame when stuff like that happens.

As for adding a fee for myspace, that is just BULLSH!T! why should WE be punished because some stupid kid gives some random petophile their address, their damn parents need to step up. . .the internet isnt a babysitter

They recently enacted just such a measure. What a joke! OK, tell people you can't be over 18 to talk to teens, etc. but provide no way to verify age. OK, Put a steak in front of a wild dog, and tell it not to eat it. Pretty much the same thing, right? How about some real legislation?!?! Idiots.

Ya know I have been thinking about where we need to draw the line on the internet stuff.

Kids today have watch too much distracting them from real important things like family. I wouldn't mind shutting myspace down or making it a strictly pay site to discourage teens.

Predators will continue to prey on children as long as they exist. These kinds of sickos will do what they do whether it's easy or hard, whether it's online or in your backyard. Myspace merely directs their attention to the internet and away from the jungle gyms. Online, it's easier to keep oneself safe from the worst of a predator's behavior, and it's also easier to set out bait to catch these perverts. Heck, even I can pose as a 13 year old girl and see if some guy wants to have sex with me, and I'd have proof when I turn him in. There are several agencies who will register people like that to catch more people who try to have sex with minors, but I could never pull that off in person. I would much rather keep Myspace around as a tool to catch predators, even if it looks at first like it helps them, than allow them to interact with my children in person.

Who thinks parks should be shut down, or teenagers and children forbidden from them, because everyday some youngster is accosted in a park?

No, these sites are just another kind of public place. It is the responsibility of parents and teenagers themselves to use them wisely.

More laws, more prohibitions, more government involved in more things is not the answer.

No, I don't think so. Some common sense need to be taught to these kids or at the very least, the parents be involved in their kids lives so they know what's going on.

9 out of 10 times, the parents had no clue the kids even had a myspace profile.

Teach your kids responsibility....and they will be responsible.

I think that parents should start taking responsibility. It's not a website's fault if your child hasn't been taught not to talk to strangers or give out personal information online. Parents need to step up and keep a closer eye on their kids when they're on the internet.
