I was hoping to use my ATM card as my main source of obtaining money during my Asia trip. I currently bank with Wells Fargo and they charge $5 for every withdrawl. That seems like a lot. Are there any banks that offer lower fees on international withdrawls?

Thank you in advance-

Hi. If you have a 'cirrus' logo on the back of your atm card, you can withdraw from your US account. If your bank charges 5 bucks per, then I'd change banks. (I use my British debit card to withdraw all over South East Asia and don't pay more than 3 bucks per)

I would find a common bank that is here in the U.S. and where ever you're traveling to. For example, Citibank is all over the U.S., Europe, and Hong Kong. I use my ATM as my main source for cash. With all the withdrawals I've made overseas, I have never been charged a fee. My suggestion is to go on-line to make a print out of the locations prior to leaving. That way you'll have a listing of where each and every bank/ATM is during your stay.

get an ATM card from a credit union. no fee will be charged for using ATM from other banks, even internationally.

however, depends on where you go in asia, the experience can be very different. e.g. if you are going to Japan, the best deal is to get an citi-bank ATM. the reason that you won't see other ATM often, and usually there is a door for ATM machine and only citi-bank card can open the door. in china, ATM are mostly for local banks, foreign card can't used at all. so, in those countries, traveler's check still the best choice. you can get the best rate and easy exchange at hotel directly.

I usually bring my credit union ATM, and some traveler's check as well. use whichever is more convenient.

have fun with traveling.

I don't think so there's a bank offer low fees. What do I know, all banks in my country is a blood sucker. Just imagine this,if you cannot maintain $2000 in your account, you could be charged $10. What should we call that situation/action. Sometimes I think we should keep our money under the pillow, not in bank. They already used our money to run their business and make a large profit. Yet,they charge us. Once you want to bank in your money, they charge you a commission, depend on how much you want to bank in your money. Much more your money, much more the commission. Same thing happen when you want to withdraw your money. I stronger believe that many of us didn't care about the interest given by bank except those who put their money in fix deposit account. So, when we close our account, we didn't claim the balance especially when it was small figure or odd cents. Where does that money goes? Of course that is consider as an unclaimed money and being absorb into their miscellaneous/revenue account. They are blood sucker.

Open another account with Citibank. They give you 3 free international withdrawal a month. And you can use it in many countries, even China. As long as the ATM supports CIRRUS or PLUS network, you can use your ATM card. Just check the ATMs as there are local and international use ATMs around.

I find this very much more convenient than even using travellers cheque. In fact, I never use travellers cheque. You get lower exchange rate compared to cash or inter-bank rate using your ATM card.

I have a Visa credit card from Bank of America. I've used the card in Indonesia, Europe, Singapore and Taiwan. I've never been charged anything for using the card but I was charged in Malaysia. I wonder how their banking system works.
Malaysia is out of my travel plans in future.

The replace fee won't variety too a lot between banks yet will variety besides from each and daily by small quantities. the appropriate component to do is to take a great quantity with you, you will get greater beneficial replace expenses up front than you will from the money machines. The lodges in Thailand will all have safes you ought to use. once you run out of money take a extensive quantity out of the money device that way you purely get charged as quickly as (as much as £4) as adversarial to over and over while you're removing small quantities. Allot of backpackers swear by national, yet I have been given knocked decrease back by them earlier I went traveling as they have particularly strict credit exams. I used my Halifax account and had no issues. Have a super time. playstation . permit your economic business enterprise comprehend the place you're going, in case you do no longer and that they see a lot of remote places transactions on your account, they could freeze your account as a secure practices precaution, and ringing them from out of the country to variety that out could be a soreness interior the neck!
