I was not popular at all in high school for the number of reasons, among them being:
1. I was one of roughly 40 to 50 African-American students in a predominately white school; the total student body population was at that time (I graduated in 1991) about 2,000!
2. I was a total nerd and proud of it . . . still am as being kinda smart (and believing in myself . . . especially when no one else would), has served me very well in life.
3. I was a "good girl" . . . in other words, I didn't do stuff that I would be ashamed to tell my kids (ie: sleep around, hurt others, etc.)
Your high school years will past before you know it . . . and as long as you stay positive, kind, and focused on your future, you will look back on this time and smile . . . =)

Do something you're good at. Choose a sport or a club where you can show off your talents. Not only will you feel good about what you're doing, but you'll show others that they should have been paying attention this whole time!
Just in case you're thinking that there's nothing for you, take a few minutes to look at your school's website, or look at the yearbooks and/or newspapers...They'll show all of the different options that are out there. From there, you can ask members of the clubs or the advisors of the clubs about what goes on in each...For example, if you're interested in Mock Trial, there are many different positions needed, each with a different skills set. Or, if you like numbers, you could get involved with Student Government as a treasurer.
Oh, and don't forget, that the people you know in high school will have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the rest of your life. I know they're important now, but in truth, it's only for four years of your life. Most of the real friends you'll have in life you'll meet in or after college.

Smile and be sociable. Don't be stand-offish -- that just keeps people away. Be yourself. You'll make great friends if you're just yourself, then you'll get along better with others and you won't be hiding anything about your personality. I'm in high school so I know what it's like too. Respect ethics and morals. You don't have to follow the trends the popular people follow. You can be different than them. Don't try to be the same as them if you know you'll always be behind (if you know what I mean). Be yourself and stay true to yourself. You'll get along better with others that way.

Avoid being a loser? No one is a loser. You don't have to be in those so called in groups to be a winner. Study hard, and you can make something of yourself. Ignore the preps!

Just don't do anything stupid. sometimes people lose popularity because they did something to be cute that backfired.
there is an old saying-'even a fool is thought wise if he keeps his mouth shut'.
Play it safe-you may not be the most popular, but you won't be the least either.

The best way is to make sure you stop caring what people think, and make sure they can see it. Make is seem like you like being unpopular, and I don't mean deliberately act anti-social, I just mean be overtly 'different', wear different clothes, decorate your school bag or something.

Try to have ethics, morals, be strong but silent. People will begin to respect you, even if they won't be your friend.
