My sister just went through a divorce and they had to file bankruptcy before they split. She wants to go back to school. Can she get a student loan??

Yes!! It all depends on the factors determining her eligibility for credit which varies from one lending institution to another. For example, some lending institutions target people who are in your sister's situation because they know they can charge more interest. In addition, they know she will not be able to declare bankruptcy again for the next 7 years so it is somewhat safe. So, my advice is to try to get her credit score higher by being a responsible borrower and then try to find one of those banks who would be willing to lend her the money. she has a good chance to get a student loan. Don't try big banks, they tend to be selective since they have money. Smaller banks, however, tend to be somewhat lineant since they need your money even if they take a bit more risk. Good luck!

fed student loans and fin aid don't use credit as a factor in deciding to lend. They make approvals based on need.

Will probably focus on current income. I hope she can get on at a fair rate, but remember financial companies are the most profitable in our country, actually beating tech companies this year.
