The computer chip is confused. When's the last time you had an oil change? There could be a leak somewhere in the head gasket or below the engine. I'd get it looked at.

You say "for no reason", but perhaps there's a very good one -- what if your oil pump is clogged or gummed up, and the amount of oil pressure it can maintain is occasionally dropping below the point at which the light comes on for low oil pressure?

Have you been changing your oil every 3k miles, or have you been lax? Have you been changing the filter every time, too? How many miles does it have?

Don't say "no reason" unless you have some way of knowing for sure. If you had an oil pressure gauge, you'd know -- but since you don't, at least consider the possibility that the light is doing what little it can to tell you a problem is imminent.

That means your oil pressure might be low. So what's the logical thing to do?? Check your oil level and have your oil pressure checked with a professional shop gage immediately. Our car owner manuals instruct us that any red light indication on our dash means that serious damage can occur if you continue to drive the car without correcting the problem. True, the oil pressure sensor or gage might be faulty, but if it's reading correctly and your engine has lost oil pressure, then you may end up buying a new $3500 dollar engine instead of just a new oil pump. The same is true of a red over temperature light or a red brake light indication on the dash. Loss of brake fluid pressure can be very damaging also!

when was the last time you had an oil change. you might be in need of one. otherwise the only other thing i could think of is that your oil pressure is low and would involve removing the oil pan to replace the oil pump.

Could be an oil sender switch, about $25.00 problem. If it goes completely, engine will throw oil out through it and may cost you the engine.
