In need for speed most wanted for GAMECUBE how do you drag?

I"ve tryed it but the other cars beat me!>I am currently on blacklist 10 and I can't beat that guy cuz the second race is drag and I can't make the freaking car go!.PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DRAG ON THAT GAME!

when it shows the arrow on the bottom of screen point up shift up and vice-versa dont hit anything or your car will be counted as crashed
