Dad thinks he doesn't look well and we can't get him to shower (he sponge bathes.) He is very proud and will not hear of our getting an aide to help him.

Is he afraid of slipping in the tub, maybe? Can you make it safer in there by putting sticky things on the bottom or a chair in the tub? (hey, it's like a sponge bath b/c he can sit down but be under running water--neato, eh?).
Is there a lady friend or wife who can help him bathe? Or maybe a very close friend or a brother?
Hey, if all else fails, there are outdoor showers at pools and at the beach, and it is summertime. And he's used soap, all he needs is the running water (not trying to be sarcastic, just thinking of the situation and what might work).

Take him through a car wash in a convertible with the top down.
Oh, the other thing. Instead on an aid, why don't you help him. Bet he washed your tail when you were younger. Your turn.

Well, I don't think he would appreciate it if you just picked him up and threw him into a swimming pool, so.........get a convertible and go through the car wash... Good luck with smellydad! I feel for you!

There are day care centers for adults. They will pick him up, bathe him and keep him busy all day. It sounds like that would be ideal for smelly dad.
