Generally, in small amounts, how much does liquid nitrogen cost at retail? Perhaps a liter.

About 50 cents a liter - cheaper than bottled water!

I got liquid nitrogen for free from our sewage treatment plant. They only use liquid oxygen to feed the 'bugs' that digest our sewage, and the liquid nitrogen is just a byproduct of their liquid oxygen making.

Be careful if you haven't used liquid nitrogen before -- you can get frostbite very quickly if you touch the stuff! Talk to someone who has experience with it.

i dont know whether it is even sold in retail. we used it in lab and got it for free if we came there - it is a byproduct of air separation (they use the oxygen and dont want the nitrogen). so if u ask local college or lab, i think they will happily pour off u a liter and nobody cares. Get a styrofoem container ( or metal thermoflask but NEVER ever close it tight - the evaporation creates volume and explosion inevitably) remember it will boil off in some time so use it soon or take more of it
