The Bay of Fundi has the highest tides in the World. The huge volume of water that rushes in and out of the bay twice a day brings in deep nutrient rich water that nourishes plant plankton (called phytoplancton),and these support zooplankton (animal plancton whic eats phytoplancton). All manenr of acquatic animals (e.g. Crustacia, like scallops, oysters and crabs and lobsters etc.), eat the zooplankton and small fish also eat zooplancton and they also consume some phytoplancton. And larger fish eat the smaler fish> Whales, deals eat the firh etc. etc.
Other rich nutrient areas exist off the western coast of South America. This also supports a large fishery, in a way similar to the Bay of Fundi.. The Humbolt current, raises water, full of rich mineral nutrients from the sea bottom.
