I have a problem. Why does a lot of people like R&B,Rap,and other music that is violent, discriminating, and degrades women.
Why do people like music that does this? Personaly, I think it is wrong for this music to use innapropriate themes of violence, sex, rape and degrading of women off & on set of music video's. Now I am not saying I don't like rap or R&B,I just think a song should be good by itself, not because of violence. Please give your opinion, and tell me why you feel they way you do about this music.

* Please answer my other question.(I had to re-post this because no one answered it yet!!!)

I agree with Cycnus prime or however he spells it sorry. it is not the Genre it is the artists, Artists can say whatever they want and people will listen yet they choose degrade if you will Society by certain Lyrics, I like some rap and even more R&B songs but mainly because of the beat, I do not like most of the words, either way I try not to listen to it that much:)

I'm going to answer your question with a personal anecdote. When my son was in elementary school, he pleaded with me to let him listen to the Snoop Doggy Dogg tape that his uncle had made for me. He swore up & down that he would cover his ears "whenever the cuss words would come on."

So, I sat him down & asked him, "What's your idea of a 'good day'?" He explained that it was when the ice cream truck would come by, or he could ride his Big Wheel & play with his friends.

I explained to him that not everyone had it so easy. I got him to listen to the following: "Today I didn't have to use my AK, I must say, it was a good day..." I asked him to imagine what it would be like living day-to-day not knowing whether you would live or die.

I taught my son that it was okay to empathize with oppression & try to understand what others are going through in their struggles, but it was not okay to emulate gangsta behavior. As long as he could understand the difference, I would not censor his tastes in music.

I am now the proud mom of a 21- y.o.firefighter, and he loves all kinds of music!

I have a problem with people who view entire genres of music as either good or bad. How about we judge individual artists or compositions on their own merits instead of lumping everyone who makes a certain kind of music in a big pile and condemning them all?
