3 bases for each amino acid (applies to both DNA and RNA).

A combination of three nitrogen bases make up a codon for one amino acid. Three amino acids - 9 bases. As you can see that make for 64 possible combinations, while there are only 20 amino acids, so many of them have more then one possible codon. There are alos codons for begining and end of chain.
This is the same for RNA and DNA, only they have one different base. DNA has : A T C G. RNA has: A U C G.

There would be at LEAST 9 nitrogen bases on the single strand of RNA.

3 each for every amino acid, plus an undetermined amount for the 'cap' and 'tail' that are placed on mRNA for processing by the cell.

But for your purposes, I imagine 9 is sufficient.

Answer is 9
Every aminoacid is coded by 3 nitrogen bases . So for 3 aminoacids 9 nitrogen bases in a single stranded DNA are needed
If it is a DNA from the coding strand of DNA 9 nitrogen bases will be involved.

DNA:
DNA contains the genetic information that is inherited by the offspring of an organism; this information is determined by the sequence of base pairs along its length. A strand of DNA contains genes, areas that regulate genes, and areas that either have no function, or a function yet unknown. Genes can be loosely viewed as the organism's "cookbook" or "blueprint".

mRNA has the codon, as instructed from DNA, to base pair with the anticodon on the tRNA. Codon's occur in triplets.
